Knowing the differences

Circular and New

New IT products are brand new and have never been used or owned.

Circular IT products are part of a more sustainable approach. They include devices that have been previously owned but restored for reuse through processes such as refurbishment, remanufacturing or upgrading. Circular also covers products made using recycled materials.

Refurbished and Remanufactured – the difference

Refurbished and remanufactured products both undergo restoration, but the process differs.

Remanufactured devices are restored through a manufacturer-defined process, using approved parts to return them to like-new condition.

Refurbished devices are restored by an independent refurbishment partner following their own process. This can lead to a wider range of quality grades, as the parts and procedures vary.

Refurbished and Used – not the same

Used (second-hand) devices are resold without going through a full restoration process.

Refurbished products, on the other hand, are tested, repaired and restored to extend their lifespan, often with added benefits like warranty and certified data wiping.

The Flex IT Grading System

Each product has a status that reflects its condition and the warranty provided. These include New, Remanufactured, Demo and Refurbished.

To make this clearer, Flex IT uses a detailed grading system so you can quickly see what to expect with each purchase.

The Flex IT SKU

Every product we offer has a unique SKU (Stock Keeping Unit).

The first part is a randomly generated number that identifies the product. The second part indicates its status. For example, New, Renew, Ex-Demo or Refurbished. This helps you quickly recognise the type of product you are viewing.

The Manufacturer Part number

The Manufacturer Part Number is assigned by the manufacturer and varies in format between brands. It is a unique code made up of numbers, letters and sometimes symbols.

Flex IT may add a status code to the Manufacturer Part Number to show the product’s condition, except for N1 (new, sealed) products, which display only the original number.
